Top sports in Mirissa, Sri Lanka, the others
 from Secret Beach

Mirissa has just come to be associated to Southern Sri Lanka as more tourists come here in quest of the ideal beach. Although being a tiny town, the region as a whole has positioned itself to meet the rising demand for foreign cuisine, nightlife, and other modern amenities. Here are 5 events you should really not miss!

Top things to do in Mirissa

We began your day of exploration at Coconut Tree Hill, a magnificent hill covered with palm palms, starting from the east. Although it's a little challenging to find, you can always ask folks around or to use Google Maps.
Head down a short path towards the first beach, which is flanked by resort villas and guesthouses, from Coconut Tree Hill. View the Seaworld Resort, which itself is famous for its little infinity pool that overlooks the shore. If you are not staying here, using the pool will run us about $4 USD.
You will reach the second, slightly smaller length of beach after crossing the first one, which has more establishments. As you continue farther, look for the Island Bay Bar, famous for its sunset margaritas.

Mirissa Beach

The majority of the action takes place here, with portions of the beach being used by both surfers and casual swimmers. The seas were a little turbulent during our visit, which made for some enjoyable surfing, but mid-July wasn't the ideal time to go swimming.

Secret Beach

There is also the Secret Beach if you're ready for a treasure hunt. A quick 10-15 minute walk from Mirissa Beach will bring you to a little beach protected by a row of palm trees and a tall bluff with a beach bar right next to it. We received several blog recommendations for this location, however we were unimpressed by its size and the amount of plastic waste that was present. During the busy season, it would undoubtedly be livelier and better cared for.

SURFING

As was already said, Mirissa beach is a terrific spot to discover your inner surfer. Request a teacher referral from your hotel. You may always give Surf & Yoga a ring and request to use theirs!

WATCHING WHALE & DOLPHINS

We have heard varying opinions regarding the experiences from other travelers. The likelihood of spotting whales varies substantially depending on the season. Travelers should go between November and March/April when the waves are calm. While we were there in July, we met other folks who had gone and complained of having terrible seasickness because of the choppy waters. Make sure you're okay with spending four to five hours on a rocking boat if you travel off-season.

Even though we were quite interested, we decided against going this time owing to poor scheduling and a steep price (about $40 per person).

Food and Drink

In comparison to other places we have been, Mirissa has a lot more dining alternatives.

We went to No. 1 Dewmini Roti Shop, which is hidden away from the bustle of Mirissa's major street, for some regional Sri Lankan food. This restaurant serves you great and genuine rotis, rice, curries, and juices. We returned again since we enjoyed it so much. Be aware that you must order curry meals either the day before or the morning of. All day long, rotis and kotus are provided.

You'll do well to stay near the Mirissa beach if you want more sophisticated and western cuisine. As dusk falls, the neighborhood eateries set up large tables with a variety of fresh fish on display. The most popular fish seems to be red snapper, which may be cooked for a price to be decided with your host. Although we have heard conflicting opinions about these eateries, there is no denying the breathtaking surroundings.

Visit Zephyr Restaurant & Bar on Mirissa Beach for their burgers with a view if you're missing Western cuisine! However, be aware that the service will sadly be a little sluggish and the fees will be justifiably expensive.
